GoGonova metal detector with 8-inch coil

The IP68-rated search coil opens up beach and creek searches, while the adjustable shaft lets kids and adults take turns without changing the basic setup.

Two modes give you a simple way to search broadly or filter out metals you are not looking for.

The kit also includes a shovel and carry bag, though the shovel is intended for soft ground or sand—not hard, firm soil.

Key specifications

This GoGonova detector has an 8-inch search coil and an adjustable shaft that extends from 39.3 to 51.3 inches. Its coil is rated IP68 for underwater use, the control box is not waterproof, so keep that section dry even when searching at the water’s edge. The maker says the detector can find metal underground up to 8 inches deep, but actual results can depend on what you are searching for and the conditions.

The LCD has a backlight for dim conditions and shows metal-identification information alongside sound alerts. All Metal mode signals when the detector senses metal. Disc mode lets you discriminate against other metal types, which can help narrow a search when you have a particular target in mind. It’s a useful choice between detecting everything and using a more selective setting, though the listed features do not promise identification of every target with certainty.

Who it’s for

The adjustable design is listed for kids ages 8–12 as well as adults, making it practical for a shared outing where the detector may pass between family members. The armrest is intended to make holding it more comfortable, and the maker describes assembly as a quick, simple process. Beginners may appreciate the large display and two clear search modes rather than having to start with a detector built around more involved settings.

It makes sense if you want a recreational detector for a beach trip, yard search, creek outing, or camping excursion, and would rather have one kit that includes basic digging gear. You may want to skip it if you need a waterproof control box or plan to dig in packed, hard ground, the included shovel is specifically not recommended for those conditions.

What you get

The set includes the detector, a carry bag, a multifunction shovel, anti-noise earphones, and two 9V batteries. That covers several basics for getting started, but the shovel’s stated use is soft material or sand. For a beach search, for example, you could carry the detector and bag to the shoreline, scan the sand with the coil, then use the shovel for a target in loose ground. The waterproof rating applies to the coil, not the electronics housing, so avoid submerging the control box.

Before you decide

Can kids and adults both use it? The shaft adjusts from 39.3 to 51.3 inches, and the product is listed for children ages 8–12 and adults.

Can the whole detector go underwater? No. The search coil is IP68-rated, but the control box is not waterproof.

Is the included shovel suitable for hard soil? The product information says it is for soft material or sand and is not recommended for hard or firm ground.

Is it worth it?

This is a family-oriented starter kit built around adjustable sizing, straightforward search modes, and a coil suited to wet outdoor locations. Its clearest trade-off is that underwater use is limited to the coil, while the included shovel is best kept to softer ground. Choose it for casual shared searches where those limits fit the outing, look for a different approach if you need fully waterproof electronics or digging tools for compact soil.
