Gbnryg M55Z-SX8 Metal Detector with 12-Inch Waterproof Coil and 5 Modes

The 12-inch search coil gives the Gbnryg M55Z-SX8 a broad sweep for outdoor metal detecting. Its five search modes let you adjust the approach to different targets, while the backlit LCD keeps readouts visible in low light. The telescoping stem adjusts from 21 to 53 inches. An IP68-rated coil makes beach and shallow-water searches part of its intended use.

What matters most

Choose All-Metal mode for broad detection, or use Disc mode to filter unwanted metals. Memory mode keeps signals for selected metals, Jewelry mode focuses on high-purity gold and silver, and Pinpoint mode helps narrow down a target’s location. The detector also has five sensitivity levels, giving you another way to tailor a search.

The manufacturer describes the DSP-equipped detector as able to locate quarter-sized metal items buried as deep as 12 inches. Treat that as a stated detection capability, not a guarantee for every target or ground condition. For a planned search, the modes make it easy to move between general scanning, filtering, and pinpointing without relying on a single search approach.

A backlit LCD and soft silicone buttons support straightforward operation outdoors. The collapsible cam-lock and screw-free search head are designed for quick assembly, and built-in power-on memory retains custom settings between starts. Buyers often highlight the setup and ease of use, including for younger and older users, feedback on accuracy is mixed, so results can vary by search conditions.

Quick sizing guide

The stem adjusts from 21 to 53 inches, so it can be set to suit different heights. At its 53-inch extended length, it offers a longer setup for adult users, shortening the stem can make the detector easier to handle for a younger user or a shared family outing. The detector weighs 5.8 pounds, and the included backpack supports carrying it between search areas.

Usage tips

For a beach outing, use the waterproof search coil in shallow water while keeping the control console dry, the console is not waterproof. Start with All-Metal mode to scan broadly, then switch to Pinpoint mode when you want to narrow a signal’s location. Disc mode is useful when you want to filter unwanted metal, while Memory mode helps focus on selected metals.

The package includes two batteries, adjustable over-ear headphones, a manganese-steel digger, a backpack, and a user manual. Headphones can make detector signals easier to hear in outdoor settings, and the digger gives you a dedicated tool for excavation. The detector can also suit a backyard or park search, where the adjustable stem and search modes help accommodate different users and targets.
