For iPhone and Samsung owners who want to keep using their phone while it charges, the ESR Cyclone combines a magnetic charging pad with a stand that adjusts from 0–150°. It supports Qi2.2 charging up to 25W, and its portrait and landscape positions can suit calls, browsing, or video viewing at a desk.
The slim pad includes a 5.9 ft USB-C to USB-C cable, but no power adapter. ESR recommends a 50W-or-higher PD adapter for charging, a 30W-or-higher adapter is described as temporary use.
The essentials
The adjustable stand is the main difference from a basic flat magnetic charger: it lets you position a compatible phone while it charges, including for StandBy use. Compared with a simpler flat pad, this model adds viewing-angle flexibility and active cooling, someone who only needs a stationary charging surface may not need those features.
How to take care of it
Keep the charger flat when you want to reduce fan noise, ESR says the fan runs more slowly in that position. Check that foreign objects are not around the charger or fan, and make sure the fan is rotating properly if the phone becomes unusually warm. ESR also recommends a phone case no thicker than 2 mm, since thicker cases may slow charging and contribute to heat. For magnetic attachment, it advises using a compatible case from ESR or the phone manufacturer, other cases may not provide enough magnetic strength.
Usage tips
Use the included USB-C cable with a suitable PD adapter, and center the phone on the magnetic pad. The stand can be adjusted for portrait or landscape viewing, which is useful when following a recipe, joining a call, or checking notifications at a desk without picking up the phone. ESR states magnetic strength of up to 1,200 g, or up to 2,000 g with an ESR magnetic case, these figures are manufacturer claims and may depend on the case and device. Should you buy it?
Choose the Cyclone if you want a Qi2.2 magnetic charger that also props up your phone and includes active cooling, and you already have—or plan to use—a suitable PD adapter. Its adjustable stand makes it more versatile for viewing than a pad that lies flat, while the adapter requirement means it is not an all-in-one purchase. If you mainly want a basic charging pad and do not need an adjustable viewing angle, a simpler design may be a better match.
