## Description

As a PlayStation 5 CD-ROM, Mouse: P.I. For Hire brings a hand-drawn, black-and-white cartoon world to a single-player first-person shooter. Its 1930s-inspired rubber hose animation gives Mouseburg a distinct look, while a noir investigation puts private investigator Jack Pepper on the trail of a missing person and a wider web of crime and corruption.

Combat moves quickly, and exploration is built around movement abilities as well as firefights. The result blends detective fiction, retro shooter action, and cartoon humor in one campaign.

## Strengths

Mouse: P.I. For Hire pairs its monochrome, hand-drawn visuals with a story set in Mouseburg’s criminal underworld. Jack Pepper investigates a case that leads into corruption, kidnapping, and murder, giving the action a narrative thread beyond clearing each encounter. The city’s locations range from shadowy streets and film studios to an opera house, swamps, and underground sewers, so the investigation unfolds across varied settings.

The arsenal features more than a dozen weapons and pieces of equipment with cartoon-inspired designs, along with consumable power-ups for intense fights and boss encounters. Fast-paced first-person combat rewards constant movement, while wall-running, a grapple hook, and double-jump abilities add ways to navigate levels and reach different areas. An original jazz soundtrack and English voice performance by Troy Baker round out the retro-noir presentation.

## Key points

This is a single-player FPS for PlayStation 5, with a campaign built around investigation, combat, and exploration. The game includes more than 20 noir-infused levels, cases to solve, and collectibles to find. Its movement abilities and Metroidvania-inspired level traversal make getting around Mouseburg part of the play, not just a route between firefights.

Buyers highlight the game’s blend of cartoon humor and shooter action, along with its old-school cartoon look and noir atmosphere. Feedback on campaign length is mixed: some buyers describe a playthrough of around 20 hours, while another would have liked a longer adventure. Those impressions offer a sense of how players have experienced the campaign, rather than a fixed completion time.

## Tips for day-to-day use

The game is rated Teen and lists English as its language. Its one-player format makes it a fit for solo sessions, whether the focus is following Pepper’s investigation, exploring the levels for collectibles, or taking on the combat encounters. The campaign’s combination of shooting and traversal also gives players different ways to engage with each area.

## When it makes sense

Choose this release for a PS5 shooter that puts a stylized detective story alongside fast combat and movement-based exploration. Compared with a more realistic military or crime shooter, its 1930s cartoon animation, jazz, and noir setting give the action a more playful visual identity. It suits you if you want a solo campaign that moves between investigating Mouseburg, fighting its gangs, and exploring distinct cartoon locations.
