## Description

Some jazz listeners look for intimate improvisation, others want familiar musical ideas opened up by a larger ensemble. Chet Remembered brings those approaches together in a tribute shaped by Enrico Pieranunzi and trumpeter Bert Joris. HR Big Band gives the music a broad orchestral palette. The result is a thoughtful choice for focused listening and for jazz collections built around distinctive arrangements.

## Practical tips
This album is well suited to a listening session where the arrangements can take center stage. The music connects compositions from Pieranunzi’s years of collaboration with Chet to later material, giving the tribute a personal thread across different periods. Tracks include “From E. to C.,” “Soft Journey,” “Fairy Flowers,” “Brown Cat Dance,” “Night Bird,” and “Echoes.” The named pieces offer a useful starting point for listeners drawn to melodic jazz and the story behind the music.

If you’re choosing between a small-group sound and a fuller ensemble approach, this release leans into the colors of a big band. Joris contributes both as a trumpet player and as an arranger, developing the melodic material into fresh melodic and rhythmic passages. That makes the album a fit for listeners who enjoy hearing a tune reimagined through ensemble writing, as well as for those interested in how improvisational ideas can be carried into a larger arrangement.

## Usage tips
Play the Audio CD on a device that supports Audio CDs, then give the arrangements room to unfold rather than treating the album as background music. “Soft Journey” is a natural place to start: Joris’s arrangement expands a solo Pieranunzi transcribed from Chet’s 1979 recording into a big-band setting. The album also pairs material associated with the earlier collaboration, including “Night Bird,” with “Echoes,” recorded later in 1987. That range makes it easy to follow the tribute as both a musical conversation and a reflection on a lasting artistic influence.

It makes sense if you value jazz for its interplay between melody, improvisation, and arrangement. Instead of presenting the tribute only through the original small-group context, Chet Remembered places selected compositions in a big-band setting, with Joris shaping the material and HR Big Band performing it. For a practical listening plan, start with the tracks tied to the earlier collaboration, then move to “Echoes” to hear a piece from a later period.

## Final verdict
Chet Remembered suits jazz listeners who want a personal tribute with more than a retrospective premise: its musical identity comes through the connection between Pieranunzi and Chet, Joris’s trumpet and arranging, and the colors of HR Big Band. Choose it for melodic, arrangement-led listening, especially if you enjoy hearing familiar jazz ideas take shape in a larger ensemble.
