## Description

## Key points

Bass players looking for a regular light/medium set with an uncoated feel may find the D'Addario NYXL 45-105 worth a closer look. It’s a four-string set built around a NY Steel core and premium nickel-plated steel wrap wire, with a reworked core-to-wrap ratio intended to retain a familiar feel while bringing out harmonics.

D'Addario says the design aims for stronger strings, steadier tuning, punchy tone, and a more responsive output. Those are useful priorities if you play through rehearsals or gigs and want strings designed to handle frequent playing without giving up tonal detail. They’re made in the USA.

## Size & fit

The listed 45-105 gauge and regular light/medium description give a clearer sense of the feel than a product name alone: this is a middle-ground set, rather than an especially light or heavy choice. That can make sense for players who want a familiar-feeling setup and a balance between response and a solid low end, though feel is personal and depends on your instrument and playing style.

Keep in mind that the product details don’t specify scale length or individual string lengths. If your bass has unusual fit requirements, check those against the instrument before choosing. It suits you if you want an uncoated four-string set with nickel-plated steel wrap wire, Not the best choice if you specifically want coated strings or a gauge other than 45-105.

## Tips for day-to-day use

For a practical example, imagine restringing before a rehearsal where you’ll move between steady low notes and more expressive passages. The nickel-plated wrap and steel core are designed to support a punchy response and tuning stability, while the harmonic emphasis may appeal to players who want notes to retain definition in a mix. These are design intentions, not a guarantee that every bass or setup will sound the same.

As with any string change, give the set time to settle and tune your bass before playing. The set comes in a recyclable, resealable VCI bag, its code can be registered for Players Circle points. That’s a small extra, not a reason by itself to choose one gauge over another.

## Practical doubts

**Are these coated strings?** No. The product is described as a premium uncoated bass set.

**What is the wrap wire made of?** Premium nickel-plated steel, wound around a NY Steel core.

**Can the package code be used for rewards?** The maker says the code on the resealable VCI bag can be registered to earn Players Circle points.

## Is it worth it?

This set makes the most sense if you’re shopping for uncoated strings in a 45-105 gauge and value a familiar feel alongside the maker’s stated focus on tuning stability, strength, and tonal response. Compared with choosing strings simply by the lowest price or sticking with a basic standard set, the NYXL’s appeal is its construction and those specific performance aims. If you prefer a coated set, need another gauge, or can’t confirm the fit for your bass, those priorities point toward a different option. The useful buying decision here is whether this gauge and uncoated format match your setup—not whether every advertised tonal benefit will suit every player.
