## Description

If you want patio or poolside audio, the Bowers & Wilkins AM-1 is designed for outdoor placement rather than occasional indoor use. Its weather-resistant construction and wall-mounting setup are the main reasons to consider it.

It is sold as a pair, so you can plan for sound across a seating area instead of choosing a single speaker. The white finish is also worth factoring into how the speakers will look against your exterior walls.

The trade-off is that these are wired speakers. You’ll need to plan for speaker cable and mounting locations, rather than expecting a portable, move-anywhere setup.

## Key points

Each speaker combines a 1-inch aluminum-dome tweeter, a 5-inch glass-fiber cone bass/midrange driver, and an auxiliary bass radiator. The radiator is intended to help with sound dispersion when the speaker is mounted high on a wall, a useful detail for patios or shared outdoor areas where listeners may be spread out.

The cabinet uses glass-filled plastic, and the grille is aluminum. The maker describes the materials as resistant to rust, dust, moisture, and UV exposure. Keep in mind that the product information does not specify an IP rating or explain how it should be protected during severe weather, so those details may matter for a fully exposed installation.

## How to use it

The included cast-aluminum wall bracket and one-plug mounting design are intended to simplify installation. The speakers can be mounted in portrait or landscape orientation, and the AM-1 rotates 110° in both directions to help aim them after mounting. For example, you could position a pair on a patio wall and angle them toward the seating area rather than pointing them straight outward.

They’re also described for indoor use in places such as bars, restaurants, and communal areas. That makes them worth considering when you need a durable wall-mounted speaker for a shared space, not only a garden or poolside setup. The AM-1 is wired, though, so cable routing and a suitable mounting surface are part of the installation plan.

## Practical tips

Before choosing a location, think about where people will sit and whether the speakers can be aimed toward that area. The flexible orientation and rotation help with positioning, but they do not remove the need to plan the cable route. If you want audio you can move between the patio, kitchen, and yard, a portable speaker is a different, more convenient approach, the AM-1 is geared toward a fixed installation.

It suits you if you want a pair of wall-mounted speakers for an outdoor living area and value weather-resistant materials. Not the best choice if you need a wireless or portable setup, or if you want published weather-protection ratings before installing speakers in an exposed location.

## Before you decide

- **Does the AM-1 come as a pair?** Yes. The product name specifies a pair, which is useful when planning coverage for a seating area.
- **Are these wireless speakers?** No. The product description identifies them as wired, so plan for speaker cable and placement before installation.
- **Can they be mounted in different orientations?** Yes. The supplied bracket supports portrait or landscape mounting, and the speakers rotate 110° in both directions.

## Final verdict

The AM-1 makes sense when you want a fixed pair of speakers for a patio, garden, poolside, or shared indoor space, and the wall-mount format suits your layout. Its driver configuration, included bracket, and adjustable aiming give you practical installation flexibility. The decision is less clear if you need wireless convenience or want a specific weather-resistance rating before buying, those requirements call for a different kind of speaker or more detailed protection information. The stated resistance to dust, moisture, and UV exposure is according to the maker.
