Aootek Solar Motion Sensor Lights, 120 LEDs

Highlights

Dark steps or a poorly lit path can make arriving home less comfortable, especially when you do not want to run wiring. These Aootek solar motion sensor lights use a built-in PIR detector to switch to high brightness when motion is detected, then turn off after 15 seconds in motion-sensor mode. The pack includes 10 lights, each with 120 LEDs and a solar panel.

You can choose among three modes: motion-activated lighting, a steady 10% brightness setting for up to 8 hours at night, or a low glow that brightens when movement is detected. The listing gives no lumen rating, so you cannot compare the brightness of a specific area with other lights without that measurement.

Best use cases

Their 270° wide-angle illumination is intended for outdoor spots such as steps, a front door, a yard, a garage, a deck, or a pathway. For example, mount one near a porch step so it brightens as someone walks up, while the other lights cover separate points around the entry or yard. The listed motion detection range is up to 26 feet within a 120° angle, that describes the sensor’s detection area, not the light’s stated illumination angle.

It suits you if you want multiple solar-powered lights with motion sensing rather than a single wired fixture, and have sunny mounting locations available. The compact body measures 4.13 × 2.75 inches and is black. An IP65 rating is listed for outdoor use, and the product description also identifies the lights as heatproof.

Tips for day-to-day use

Choose a location that receives direct sunlight, since charging conditions affect how long the lights can illuminate. The instructions recommend charging them in direct sun for 6–8 hours before use and keeping dust and debris off the panel. Installation involves drilling a hole, inserting the supplied wall plug, and fastening the light with a screw through its mounting hole.

Ten in mind that a shaded position may not provide the recommended charging conditions. If the lights will go along a covered entry or beside a wall that gets little sun, solar-powered units may be less practical than a wired option. The listed panel is 1.2W monocrystalline silicon, with a stated conversion rate of up to 20.5%, no runtime figures are provided for the motion mode or smart brightness mode.

Questions before you buy

How does the motion setting work? When it is dark, the light switches to high brightness after detecting motion and turns off after 15 seconds.

Can the lights stay on all night? The permanent-on mode is described as staying at 10% brightness for 8 hours. Smart brightness mode instead keeps a slight glow and brightens for 15 seconds when motion is detected.

What is included for mounting? The installation directions refer to a wall plug and screw. They recommend choosing a sunny location before drilling and securing each light.

Should you buy it?

These are worth considering if you need several self-contained lights for steps, a porch, or a path and can place them where their panels receive direct sun. The three modes give you a choice between turning the light on only when needed and keeping a dimmer presence overnight. Not the best choice if you need a specified brightness level, dependable charging in shade, or a stated runtime beyond the permanent-on mode. Those details are not provided, so match the lights to a modest outdoor wayfinding job rather than assuming they will illuminate a large area like a dedicated floodlight.
