Allewie California King Platform Bed Frame, Velvet

The adjustable headboard is the standout feature of this Allewie California king platform bed frame: its two height settings range from 38 to 42 inches, giving you some flexibility when pairing it with a mattress. The grey velvet upholstery and vertical channel tufting add a softer, more finished look than a basic platform frame. Its wood slats and cross-braced metal frame are designed to support a mattress without a box spring. For a California king setup, it also offers under-bed space for small boxes or shoes.

What to know

This frame combines a reinforced metal structure with evenly spaced solid wood slats, and the listed maximum weight capacity is 800 lb. The practical upside is a support system that does not require a separate box spring, which keeps the bed setup simpler. The upholstered headboard has two height positions, but no mattress-thickness range is specified. Keep in mind that the best-looking fit depends on how your mattress sits against the headboard, so measure your mattress before choosing a setting. Under-bed clearance is intended for small storage, though its exact height is not provided.

On-body feel

The velvet is described as soft to the touch, and the padded headboard is meant to make sitting up or leaning back more comfortable. That can be useful for reading or winding down in bed, rather than treating the headboard as decoration only. The channel tufting gives the grey upholstery a more tailored appearance than a plain fabric panel, while still keeping the overall design restrained. It makes sense if you want a California king frame with a cushioned backrest and a cleaner alternative to a separate box spring. Not the best choice if you need measured under-bed clearance or a confirmed fit for a very specific mattress thickness, those details are not supplied.

Tips for day-to-day use

Before assembly, lay out the labeled parts and hardware so the frame pieces are easy to identify. The maker says the included instructions, tools, and hardware allow two people to assemble it in about 41 minutes, treat that as an estimate rather than a guaranteed time. Once the bed is in place, the open space underneath can hold shoes or small storage boxes and make the floor easier to reach for cleaning. If you plan to lean against the headboard often, try both height settings during setup and choose the one that meets your mattress at a comfortable point. The 800 lb figure is the listed maximum capacity, not a substitute for following the assembly instructions.

Practical doubts

Does it need a box spring? No. The frame uses solid wood slats and is described as not requiring a box spring.

Can the headboard height be changed? Yes. It has two settings, adjustable from 38 to 42 inches.

Are tools included? The product information says the necessary tools and hardware are included, along with assembly instructions.

Final verdict

This Allewie frame is worth considering if you want a California king platform bed with a velvet headboard, adjustable height, and built-in mattress support rather than a separate box spring. The under-bed space adds a useful place for smaller items, but it is not a substitute for measured storage clearance. Choose it when the upholstered look and simpler bed setup are priorities, look for a frame with published clearance and mattress-fit measurements if those determine whether it will work in your room.
