Description:

This pair of ice cleats slips over trainers, walking shoes or boots to add grip when paths are icy or snow-covered. Lightweight and simple to put on, they are intended for winter walking, trail running, ice fishing and other outdoor activities where extra traction reduces the risk of slips.

Key Points

The design uses a thicker, stretchy thermoplastic elastomer which the manufacturer says is more durable than ordinary TPE and performs at temperatures down to -45°C. The fit is stabilised with an added Velcro strap that secures the unit to different types of footwear. Each unit includes aggressive metal spikes at both forefoot and heel to offer multidirectional grip on ice, compacted snow and wet surfaces. These cleats fold down small and come with a carry bag, so they can be carried in a rucksack or glove compartment when not in use. ⚒️❄️

Technical Specifications

  • Name: ZUXNZUX Crampons
  • Material: stretchy thermoplastic elastomer
  • Spikes: 11 x 304 stainless steel spikes per foot (7 forefoot, 4 heel)
  • Weight per unit: approximately 180 g
  • Cold performance: rated to -45°C according to the manufacturer

Usage Recommendations

Put the cleat over the toe of the shoe first, stretch the body back over the heel and fasten the Velcro strap, which makes fitting possible in about 30 seconds. Check the position of the spikes before walking to ensure they sit under the sole and not offset, particularly on narrow boots. For activities that involve frequent transitions from ice to indoor floors, consider removing the cleats when entering buildings to avoid marking floors.

Practical Considerations

The stainless steel spikes provide strong bite on glassy ice and compacted snow but may make noisy contact on hard pavement. They are not intended for use with delicate indoor surfaces without removal. The elastomer is thicker than typical rubber and is less likely to tear in cold conditions, however heavy abrasion over time may reduce elasticity. If you plan extended use on bare rock or gravel, expect faster wear to the body and the spikes.
