Why it’s worth it
This camera mixes simple operation with a surprising set of features. Kids can print photos instantly without ink using the supplied paper rolls, choose between grey or dot print styles and experiment with seven print density levels, according to the manufacturer. Extra creative tools include 16 photo frames, four colour filters and five mirror effects, so children learn composition and have fun at the same time. There is a modest trade off in that print paper will need replacing as use increases, but that also encourages kids to plan shots and look after their prints.
Best use cases
Take it on family days out, to school trips or to holiday camps. The lightweight body and lanyard make it easy for little hands to carry, while switchable flash, auto focus and 16x digital zoom cover a range of lighting and distance situations. It is also handy for quiet moments at home where children can print and decorate photos using the provided coloured pens and stickers. It’s a good fit if you want a toy that promotes creativity and basic photography skills in young children.
Care & maintenance
Charge fully before first use to get the best battery life, which the manufacturer rates as around 6 hours of photo use and 3.5 hours of video recording. Store the spare photo rolls and stickers in a dry place and handle prints gently once produced. Regularly clear unwanted files from the SD card to keep performance smooth.
