Benefits

These mini polished rocks lift the look of small planters without masking the plant. As a top dressing for succulents they help reduce surface evaporation according to the manufacturer and can assist surface drainage when added above potting mix. The assorted colours bring a tidy, low-effort accent to tabletops, shelves and windowsills, and the pieces are stable in colour so they remain attractive over time, though occasional rinsing is advised.

Usage tips

For small pots start with a 5mm layer, the pack is said to cover around eight to ten 10cm pots or twelve to sixteen 6cm pots at that depth. Rinse the stones before use to clear dust and any loose particles, then spread evenly over the soil. It’s useful to leave a small gap around the plant stem to avoid splashback when watering.

It’s a good fit if you want a tidy, low-maintenance way to finish potted succulents or add detail to small glass vases. If you prefer fully inert aquarium gravel check that the colourants and finish are suitable for your tank inhabitants before prolonged use.
