This black tailcoat from Smiffys offers a classic dress‑up option for boys aged 10–12, combining period style with everyday safety checks suitable for parties and school events. The garment aims to look smart while meeting the safety standards parents expect, and it works well as part of magician, Victorian or formal costumes.
Key points
The tailcoat is supplied in full Smiffys branded packaging and is tested to EN71 and Nightwear safety standards, giving reassurance about flammability and material safety. It fits a waist of 25.5–26.5 inches, chest 30–31.5 inches and height 58–63 inches, so check those measurements before ordering. The piece is straightforward to layer over shirts and waistcoats depending on the look you want.

What stands out
The strongest point is the safety testing according to EN71 and Nightwear standards, which is stated by the manufacturer and matters when dressing children for events. Packaging is fully branded by Smiffys, which can help with gift presentation and storage. Do note that the product listing focuses on fit and compliance rather than fabric composition, so if you need composition details ask the retailer.
Who it’s for
It suits parents and carers seeking a reliable, recognisable costume piece for school plays, Halloween or themed parties. It’s a good fit if you want an authentic tailcoat silhouette without sourcing specialist tailoring, and it makes sense if size guidance is followed to avoid returns.
