## Description

## What is it and what need does it address
Skinners Field & Trial Salmon & Rice is a nutritionally complete dry dog food designed for active and working dogs. It’s formulated without wheat, maize, barley, poultry, beef and soya, using sustainably sourced salmon and whole rice. The aim is to support digestion and promote a glossy coat, while avoiding common allergen triggers that can irritate sensitive dogs.

## Who it’s for
This recipe targets adult working or highly active dogs who benefit from a simple, natural profile. If your dog shows sensitivity to certain grains or proteins, or you’re prioritising a fish-focused protein source with a gentle digestion approach, this range aims to fit that requirement.

## What stands out on paper
On the surface, the formulation emphasises natural ingredients without artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, and a local-to-market ethos with ingredients sourced around the Suffolk mill. The product line offers multiple nutritionally complete diets tailored to active dogs, suggesting a breadth of options if needs evolve.

## Strengths and what may not convince you
The standout feature is the salmon and rice base, which is commonly associated with skin and coat support and easier digestion for sensitive stomachs. A potential limitation is that the description does not specify exact fibre sources, micronutrient values, or feeding guidelines, so you’ll need to rely on general guidance and your vet’s advice to tailor portions. It’s also worth noting that, as a single protein and grain combination, it may not suit dogs with broader multi-allergen needs.

## How it fits into a real-world routine
For a dog that spends part of the day outdoors or on regular exercising sessions, this kibble offers a straightforward daily feed that can contribute to steady energy and well-being. If you prioritise a balance of fish protein and digestibility, this could be a sensible option to trial, however, if your dog has proven sensitivities to salmon, or requires a different energy density, you might explore alternatives within the same brand or wider market.

## Practical considerations before buying
- Check your dog’s current weight, activity level and any vet recommendations for daily portions since the description doesn’t provide exact feeding guidelines.
- Consider whether your dog has any grain or fish sensitivities and whether gradual introduction is needed to minimise any digestive upset.
- Look for the broader Field & Trial family to compare whether salmon & rice suits your dog’s evolving activity or life stage needs.
- The absence of artificial additives is a plus for buyers seeking a more natural profile, but be mindful that taste acceptance can vary between dogs.

## How it compares to other approaches
This option sits between a basic, mass-market kibble and more tailored working-dog formulas that might include higher fat content or different protein sources. If you want a straightforward fish-based, grain-free-lite approach with reasonable coat support without diving into premium-price regimes, this could be worth a closer look. If your dog requires higher energy density or a more specific allergen-free regime, you may want to compare with other lines that offer alternative proteins or grain choices.

## What to review before purchasing
- Confirm that your dog’s dietary needs align with a single-protein (salmon) and grain (rice) approach.
- Verify feeding guidelines and adjust portions according to body condition and activity level.
- Consider any additional supplements or veterinary recommendations that may be needed to complement the diet.

## Everyday use example
Imagine a working spaniel finishing a long field session and returning home ready for a steady dinner. A practical daily routine with this kibble would involve measured portions aligned to weight and activity, followed by fresh water and a calm recovery period. The salmon and rice formula supports a nutrient profile that aims to sustain energy without overloading the stomach—useful when meals are spaced around training times.

## FAQ snapshot
- Is this suitable for dogs with sensitive digestion? It’s designed to be gentle on digestion, using salmon and rice and avoiding common triggers, but individual responses vary.
- Does it include artificial additives? No, the product claims no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives where possible.
- Can it replace all other foods? It’s a complete diet, but always tailor portions to your dog’s specific needs and veterinary guidance.

## Final verdict
Final verdict: Worth considering if you want a fish-based, complete diet for an active dog and you value a grain profile that excludes common allergens. It may not be the best choice if your dog has known salmon sensitivity, requires a higher energy density, or needs a different protein strategy. A practical approach is to trial with careful portioning and monitor coat, digestion and energy levels over a few weeks.
