## Description

## What it is and what it solves
The ProtoArc XKM01 is a foldable, full-size keyboard paired with a compact wireless mouse. Designed for travel and mobile work, it aims to deliver a familiar UK keyboard layout with 105 keys, a numeric keypad, and 12 practical shortcuts, while staying compact enough to fit in a carry case. The setup supports multi-device use, allowing connection to up to 3 devices via 2.4G and two Bluetooth channels, making it convenient to switch between a laptop, tablet and phone.

## How it is laid out and connected
On paper, the UK layout is optimised for Windows and macOS, with a fold mechanism that preserves most of the tactile feel you expect from a full-size keyboard. The kit includes a USB-A wireless dongle for the 2.4G link and a USB-C charging/communication cable for both keyboard and mouse. Note that the mouse uses a USB-A receiver and is not C-type on its own.

## What stands out in day-to-day use
The typing experience relies on scissor-switch keys with a low profile and reduced noise. The mouse offers three DPI settings (1000/1600/2400) for different surfaces and tasks, with quieter clicks that suit shared workspaces. A dedicated auto-sleep feature helps preserve battery life, which is useful when travelling or when you’re trying to work away from a power socket.

## Limitations and things to consider
If you prioritise a completely wireless, USB-C‑only ecosystem, this combo may feel a touch old-school due to the USB-A receiver. The foldable form can make the keyboard a touch less rigid than a traditional full-size keyboard, and some users might find the compact travel footprint slightly limits palm-rest comfort for prolonged typing sessions.

## Who it’s for
This set is well-suited for business travellers, students, and professionals who move between devices and need a lightweight, compact solution without sacrificing a full-size typing experience. It works across Windows, macOS, Chrome OS, iPadOS and Android, so it’s versatile for mixed-device work.

## Who it isn’t ideal for
If you mainly type for long hours at a fixed desk, a larger, non-folding setup with a built-in palm rest could feel more comfortable. If you require USB‑C connectivity only or a mouse that shares the same charging cable without dongles, you may want to consider other options.

## When it makes sense to buy
Buy if you need a travel-friendly setup that preserves a familiar full-size keyboard feel and you value multi-device switching. It also makes sense if you want a compact kit with a protective carry case and a rechargeable battery, avoiding frequent battery changes.

## What to check before purchasing
- Confirm that the three-device pairing suits your workflow (laptop, tablet, phone).
- Check whether you prefer USB-A receivers for wireless devices or if dongles are a concern in your bag.
- Consider the trade-off between foldable convenience and the potential slight deviation from a fixed, rigid keyboard experience.

## Practical use case
Imagine hopping between a hotel desk and a muggy train carriage. You unfold the keyboard, connect to your tablet via BT, and use the mouse with the USB-A receiver on a laptop. The setup stays light, and the protective case keeps everything together without bulging your bag.

## In the box and quick comparison thoughts
In practice, this combo positions itself as a pragmatic travel tool: not the most minimal, but certainly more portable than a full desktop setup. If you need something simpler, a compact wireless keyboard or a dedicated travel keyboard could be considered, but you’d lose the integrated mouse and the quick multi-device switching.

## FAQ (practical, non-technical)
- How many devices can I pair simultaneously? Up to 3 devices (2.4G + BT1 + BT2).
- Is the mouse rechargeable? Yes, the mouse is rechargeable via the included cable, and the kit supports USB-C charging.
- Does the keyboard have backlight? The provided details don’t specify backlighting.

## Should you buy it?
Would you like a portable, full-size typing experience that travels with you and can switch between multiple devices with minimal fuss? If so, this ProtoArc XKM01 set offers a coherent package for travel and off-desk use. It may not be the best pick if you want a purely USB-C or backlit, desk-focused setup, or if you prioritise a cable-free single-device workflow. Overall, it represents a sensible balance of portability, utility and price for the right traveller or mobile worker.
