Product description

What it is

The NEEWER MS60B is a compact, handheld COB video light designed for on-the-go shooting. It covers a wide colour temperature range from 2700K to 6500K and offers 12 built-in effects for creative lighting. With a 65W output and a maximum illuminance of 40,000 lux at 1 m, it can light small studios, outdoor interviews or run-and-gun shoots without needing a full lighting rig.

How it’s powered

You’ve got flexible power options: a battery box for mobile use (1 or 2 NP-F750/NP-F970), a V-mount battery with a D-Tap cable, or a wall‑socket via the AC adaptor. Note that charging the battery while in use isn’t supported, so plan power accordingly when you’re out and about.

How it’s controlled

Control happens in three ways: direct adjustment with controls on the unit, the built-in Infinity App for wireless, OTA firmware upgrades and group control with 2.4G wireless light control. The 2.4G system allows multi-light setups (00–99 channels) within about 49 ft (15 m). This makes it easier to coordinate lighting when you have more than one unit and want consistent output across shots.

Build and design

The MS60B sits in a robust aluminium housing, weighing around 700 g with dimensions compact enough for travel. A removable handle can be angled to 180°, helping you position the light when used on a stand, handheld or in tight spaces. The internal cooling uses a silent fan to keep temperatures down without adding noise to your recording.

Output and image quality

With a high CRI of 97+ and TLCI of 98+, the light aims for accurate skin tones and faithful colour rendition. The PWM dimming technology provides smooth brightness control from 1% to 100% without obvious steps, which is helpful when you’re balancing exposures in mixed lighting conditions. The light supports Bowens modifiers via the included mount adapter, so you can shape the light with softboxes, umbrellas and more for different looks.

When it shines

If you’re doing portraits, sit-down interviews, YouTube or short films, the MS60B offers a portable, controllable option that can slot into a small kit without a lot of bulk. The 40k lux at 1 m is strong enough for close shots, while the 6500K setting keeps you close to daylight for neutral renders.

What could be better

While it covers a broad temperature range, and the app control is convenient, a few users may wish for even longer battery life on higher power or for the device to be charged while in use. Also, depending on your setup, the fan noise may become noticeable in quieter environments. If you rely on ultra-quiet shoots, factor in ambient noise considerations and test for your use case.

This light suits compact rigs, solo creators, mobile shoots, small studios and creators who value quick setup, wireless control and a range of practical lighting options without a large footprint. It’s less ideal if you need extremely high light output for large spaces or if you demand the absolute quietest operation.

Quick checks before purchase

  • Confirm you have compatible power options (NP-F750/NP-F970 or V-mount) and a plan for charging while in use.
  • Consider whether you’ll use Bowens modifiers frequently, ensure you have the correct mount adapter.
  • If you work mainly in ultra-quiet environments, test the cooling fan in your typical setting.
  • Think about whether you need full group control across multiple lights and how you’ll manage channels.

Practical use example

Imagine filming a short interview in a small room. You’d set the MS60B to 5600K to match ambient windows, add a softbox through the Bowens mount for flattering shadows, and use the app to adjust brightness from your phone as you move between shots. When stepping outdoors for a quick B-roll, you can swap to 3200K to help blend with indoor practicals, all while keeping the light portable in your bag.

FAQ (where data allows)

  • Does it support battery operation on location? Yes, via NP-F750/NP-F970 packs or a V-mount, with the caveat that charging is not possible while in use.
  • Can I control multiple lights simultaneously? Yes, using the 2.4G wireless control with group channels (00–99).
  • Is the light suitable for long-form video? It provides continuous output and low-noise operation, but assess runtime based on battery choice and power settings.

Should you buy it?
