The idea is simple: add a bit of privacy and an enclosed, den-like feel so your dog is less distracted and less likely to settle into anxious habits like barking or chewing. On paper, it’s the kind of accessory that can make crate time feel calmer for both sides of the door. If you’ve ever noticed your dog gets reactive because they can see too much (or because the crate sits in a busy area), a cover can be a practical way to soften the environment without changing the crate itself. ## The essentials: fit, access and day-to-day use This model is made for a size that measures approximately 56 x 33 x 40.6 cm, and it’s stated to be compatible with the iCrate 1522 and 1522DD designs. It’s also described as fitting most standard metal 56 cm crates, but do note the cover is only listed for certain crate door configurations. Access is handled with flaps that lift for adjustable visibility and ventilation. That’s useful if you don’t always want full coverage, or if you prefer more airflow during warmer periods. One important limitation: it’s not suitable for top-entry door crates. Also, this listing is for the cover only—your crate and bedding are not included. ## Key features that matter in real life A big part of the appeal here is the material and how it stays in place. - The cover is made from 100% polyester, described as lightweight, which helps keep it manageable to handle and remove. - It uses Velcro tabs to help secure the cover to the crate frame, while still allowing airflow. - The cover is machine washable, and it’s also tumble-dryer compatible, which makes it easier to keep fresh if your dog has accidents, sheds a lot, or simply gets the fabric grubby. It may not be a magic fix for every behavioural issue, but it’s directly aimed at the “crate feels exposed” problem that can fuel barking or chewing. ## Where it shines—and where it may fall short This crate cover tends to make most sense if your dog needs a calmer, more private space. It’s particularly relevant in households where the crate is positioned where your dog can see a lot of movement, or where noise and activity outside the crate are constant. That said, it’s not the best choice if you’re using a top-entry crate door, because the stated design doesn’t fit that style. And if your dog’s chewing is driven by something other than stress or overstimulation, a cover alone may not fully solve the issue. Worth bearing in mind too: since the listing specifies the cover dimensions, you’ll want to be careful that your crate truly matches the 56 cm category rather than assuming all “similar size” crates will work. ## Practical tips to get the best results Try it in context, not just on delivery day. For example, if your dog barks when they can see the front door, you might start with the cover fully down and the flaps positioned to reduce sightlines. If your dog then seems calmer, you can experiment with the flap opening for a balance of privacy and airflow. Also, keep the crate location in mind. A cover helps with privacy, but if the environment stays extremely stimulating, you may still see restlessness. ## Tech specs - Name: MidWest Homes for Pets XS Dog Crate Cover - Type: Privacy kennel cover (for dog crates) - Material: 100% polyester - Colour: Black - Size: Approx. 56 x 33 x 40.6 cm - Compatibility (stated): Fits most 56 cm standard metal crates, iCrate 1522 and 1522DD - Door compatibility (stated): Works with single-, double- and triple-door crates, not suitable for top-entry door crates - Fixing method: Velcro tabs - Maintenance: Machine washable, tumble dryer safe ## Mini FAQ ## Is this crate cover machine washable? Yes—it's described as machine washable and suitable for tumble drying, so cleaning should be straightforward. ## Will it fit my crate? It’s intended for most 56 cm standard metal crates, and it’s also stated to fit iCrate 1522 and 1522DD. Since it’s not for top-entry door crates, check your crate’s door style before ordering. ## Does it block airflow? No, it’s designed to allow airflow. It’s secured with Velcro tabs, but the cover is meant to keep ventilation going while still offering privacy. ## Does it reduce chewing and barking? The cover is specifically designed to help reduce anxious behaviours like barking and chewing by creating a den-like, private environment. Results can vary depending on the underlying cause. ## Is the crate included? No. The listing is for the cover only, the crate and any bedding are sold separately. ## When it makes sense? Buy this MidWest Homes for Pets XS Dog Crate Cover if you’re trying to make crate time feel more secure and private for your dog, especially if barking or chewing seems linked to anxiety or overstimulation. It’s not the best match if you have a top-entry crate door, or if your crate isn’t truly within the 56 cm category the cover is designed for. If you want a washable, lightweight cover that’s secured with Velcro and offers adjustable flaps for visibility and ventilation, it’s a sensible accessory to consider for day-to-day comfort—just make sure the fit and door style are compatible first. ## Images ![MidWest Homes for Pets XS Dog Crate Cover \(Black Polyester\) – privacy & calming help for 56 cm kennels — 1](https://www.ofertitastop.com/i/vjHLaInghXbvTTdtknhQyey8R-5e6PNJz24VtDtzbL2CqtXJwFinU8o4TCvdC15whZFKHtFtQOPo7G0bZeT_lU0iYcqj5-lwsGZqJP5R4oib_6WK5QAFhuKNyg.jpg) ![MidWest Homes for Pets XS Dog Crate Cover \(Black Polyester\) – privacy & calming help for 56 cm kennels — 2](https://www.ofertitastop.com/i/ExaQPF0Jr37-y2s3ptwx2tKaiTa387rx1F7V2JanKyeuxE70W-KEZ0uRVF0IUt0DTXt7gTkMPs9-n_GrN2Y9MrmXjzd_sptGQzjXSMBbXweo5EpUXL-3rxmiiw.jpg) ![MidWest Homes for Pets XS Dog Crate Cover \(Black Polyester\) – privacy & calming help for 56 cm kennels — 3](https://www.ofertitastop.com/i/jqOWKHKMIE0Y9VtAe4KrTmnPSa3ZD7HXBkBo-5mb-OIstnf7ZsU64XZieWfrttCo-7OXQ8Z2UQtbJktl5S8k1apBCaib7VC6NiMzyHssd-JzkYE_PyFYlK1fHA.jpg) ![MidWest Homes for Pets XS Dog Crate Cover \(Black Polyester\) – privacy & calming help for 56 cm kennels — 4](https://www.ofertitastop.com/i/jnI8FdDhXWGSlZTGNVWBhzPBFbA6UAFnFKn1fZQaY1IwlNy9q-l5vnM9tJKzheRnUBrEPaWOBgDHsncUKAsTEu4u2IKzJQn77ODKHamoaOhRoA8bRghhJdODnQ.jpg) ![MidWest Homes for Pets XS Dog Crate Cover \(Black Polyester\) – privacy & calming help for 56 cm kennels — 5](https://www.ofertitastop.com/i/XOJVEY8bjfldYfnEqoZ7Fm2sAjGduFponm6M30E6m2qzB1wLgSqrtY86dwU7gNtFDm8nyQKX5vt9s3Rfzq6af-sSHgn1x8DbkemTYctCfrF71jDpQBgSTmrWBQ.jpg)
