Maliton Grey Storage Basket, 50x35 cm (68L): A versatile, foldable solution for living spaces
Product description
What it is
The Maliton Grey Storage Basket is a large, foldable fabric basket designed to hold laundry, toys, blankets and a variety of household odds and ends. Measuring 50 x 35 cm, it offers a generous 68 litres of capacity, making it suitable for families who need a simple, unobtrusive way to keep living spaces tidy. The grey, neutral tone is chosen to fit quietly into most rooms without dominating the decor.
How it helps in daily life
On the surface, it’s a laundry and storage solution, but the value is in the practicality. The basket is made from a cotton rope woven design, which avoids sharp edges and is gentler on floors and walls than rigid plastic alternatives. With double reinforced stitching and sturdy handles, it’s easy to lift and move between rooms, even when filled. Its soft construction makes it safer for households with children and pets, and the design is lightweight enough to carry upstairs to a laundry area when needed.
What stands out (pros and sensible trade-offs)
The big advantage here is capacity paired with collapsibility. When empty, it lies flat for storage, saving space, and it resumes its shape when you fill it with laundry, toys or cushions. The material choice is practical: resistant to common stains and easy to refresh with a light wash. However, the catch with any fabric basket of this size is that it may creases during transport and may take a moment to regain its full shape—pressing with a warm iron or using blankets inside can help restore it.
What it’s not perfect for
If you need a rigid, structural organiser to hold very heavy items or to sit in a consistently high-traffic area, a stiffer container might feel more reliable. While the cotton rope is durable, it’s not designed to bear as much weight as metal or rigid plastics on a continuous basis. For heavy daily use, you may notice the sides sag a little when overfilled.
Who it’s for
This basket suits busy families, students sharing a living space, or anyone looking for a versatile, visually unobtrusive storage solution. It’s particularly well suited to bedrooms, living rooms, nurseries and utility spaces where a soft, woven look helps the room feel calmer. If your priority is a tidy space with a touch of warmth, this basket aligns well with those aims.
When it makes sense to buy
Consider this basket when you need a large, flexible container that can store clothes, toys or linen and can be moved easily between rooms. It’s a sensible option if you value a neutral appearance and a design that’s kinder to the environment and to domestic interiors than hard plastics. It’s not the most robust choice for industrial or long-term heavy-duty storage, but for homes and light-duty use it offers solid value.
What to check before buying
Make sure the room where you’ll place it has enough space to accommodate the 50x35 cm footprint when filled. Check whether you expect the sides to stay upright under load, if you routinely fill it near capacity, a plan to use internal supports or lighter loads may help keep its shape. If you intend to machine wash, use a laundry bag and follow gentle care recommendations to extend the basket’s life.
Practical usage example
Imagine a weekend laundry session: you fill the basket with clothes from several rooms and carry it to the laundry area in one go. Once there, you can empty it quickly and leave it folded in a wardrobe or under a bed until the next round. In a kid’s room, it doubles as a soft toy bin that blends into the space rather than competing with the decor.
FAQ (practical answers)
- Is this basket suitable for daily laundry loads? It handles family-sized laundry to an extent, but expect it to soften a bit as it approaches full capacity.
- Can it be washed in a machine? Yes, it can be machine washed, but typically best in a laundry bag and with a gentle cycle.
- Will it stand up on its own when empty? It tends to lie flat when empty, you can shape it by placing lightweight items inside or by unfolding and smoothing the sides.
Buying decision
Is it worth it? Worth considering if you prioritise a soft, large-capacity storage solution that blends with home interiors and is easy to move. It may not be the top pick if you need a rigid, high-durability container for heavy daily use, but for most domestic scenarios it offers genuine convenience with an understated look.
