## Description

This slim external CD DVD drive offers a compact optical solution for laptops and desktops, combining USB 3.0 and USB‑C connectivity for faster data transfer and easy plug and play use. It is useful for playing discs, installing software and burning backups, and avoids the need for an internal drive when space or weight matters.

## Key features

The drive connects via USB‑C or USB 3.0 and is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.0. It is bus powered so no extra power supply or driver installation is required in most setups, though systems with low USB power may need external power. According to the manufacturer the device delivers reading and burning speeds up to 8x for DVDs and up to 24x for CDs, and includes an anti‑burn control chip to reduce the risk of disc damage during writes. Note that the device does not support TVs, tablets, Blu‑ray discs, 3D or gaming consoles.

## Technical details

- Name: External CD DVD Drive
- Type: Slim optical DVD drive
- Format: DVD+R DVD CD‑R CD‑RW CD‑ROM DVD‑ROM
- Interface: USB 3.0 and USB‑C
- Compatibility: macOS Linux Windows 11 10 8.1 7 XP

## Usage tips

Use the integrated data cable to keep your workspace tidy and place the drive on a stable surface to avoid movement while burning or reading discs. If you plan regular disc writing, keep spare blank DVDs and CDs to hand and allow discs to cool between long burn sessions. It’s a good fit if you need an occasional optical drive for media playback, software installation or creating disc backups, and may not suit you if you want Blu‑ray playback or use on Chrome OS or most tablets.

## Care & maintenance

Handle discs by the edges and keep the drive covered when not in use to reduce dust build‑up. Avoid placing heavy items on top of the unit and unplug when not required to save power and reduce wear. The non‑slip rubber pad helps keep the unit steady during use.
