Why it’s worth it
The set is a practical choice for a range of users, from children and beginners to students and more experienced artists. The individual slots in the box help protect each stick from knocks and minimise breakage, so the pastels arrive ready to use and are easy to carry. The pigments are vivid yet easy to manipulate on paper, which helps when developing layering and shading techniques. Do note that fluorescent effects require a suitable light source to be fully appreciated.
Usage tips
A little goes a long way with these soft pastels, so start with light layers and build up intensity gradually. Use blending tools or a fingertip for smooth gradients and a knife or edge for sharper marks. It’s a good idea to keep a scrap sheet nearby to test fluorescent tones under black light before committing to a composition. It’s a good fit if you want a compact, varied set that supports learning techniques as well as finished pieces.
