Its PAL format and Region 2 coding are useful details to consider when choosing a DVD for your collection or planning a viewing at home.

Highlights

This edition presents Chernobyl as a DVD release of the 2019 Sky Atlantic drama. The named cast brings together Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgård, Jessie Buckley and Adam Nagaitis. If you are choosing between a physical disc and a digital way to watch, this format gives you a DVD edition to keep with your other discs and return to when you want to watch the drama again.

English is listed as the language, and English subtitles are available. That makes the disc straightforward to follow in its stated language, with subtitles as an additional on-screen aid. The PAL format and Region 2 designation are also practical points for matching the disc to your DVD setup before watching.

Usage tips

Before settling in to watch, check that your DVD player or playback device supports Region 2 discs and the PAL format. The disc is Region 2 and may not be viewable outside Europe, so regional compatibility matters particularly if you are buying it for use elsewhere. These format details are also worth keeping in mind when buying a DVD as a gift, especially if the recipient’s player is set up for another region.

For a viewing with subtitles, select English subtitles in the DVD playback settings. If you prefer to watch without them, the listed language is English. Keeping the disc with your other DVDs makes it easy to return to this edition as part of a physical drama collection.

Getting the most from it

This DVD suits a planned home viewing rather than a purchase based on extras or bonus material: the available details identify the drama, cast, language, subtitles and disc format. You can choose it when you specifically want Chernobyl on a physical DVD, or when English subtitles are useful alongside the English-language presentation. The named cast also helps distinguish this release if you are browsing for a drama featuring these performers.

For example, you could add the disc to a collection of television dramas and play it on a compatible Region 2, PAL setup for an evening’s viewing. Compared with choosing a digital version, the DVD is the physical-disc route, its region and format are the key details to match to your player.
