## Description

For gardeners who need a more comfortable grip or find standard secateurs difficult to squeeze, the VOTREK VT-X850 has a handle that adjusts continuously from 9.5 to 12.5cm. Set the opening to suit your hand or gloves, rather than choosing between fixed positions.

Its bypass blade is made from SK5 steel and has a non-stick coating to help resist sap. A lever mechanism supports cutting, while the soft, non-slip rubber grip and shock-absorbing structure are designed to reduce strain on the hand and wrist.

Planning to prune roses or fresh growth around the garden? The adjustable handle and one-handed slide lock make this a practical tool to keep ready for regular pruning jobs.

## Key takeaways

The VT-X850 measures 21.5cm and uses a bypass cutting action for pruning roses, shrubs and other plants. The handle’s stepless adjustment gives you control over the grip opening, with a stated range of 9.5 to 12.5cm. That flexibility is useful when different people share the same secateurs, or when you want to work with gloves on.

A compound-lever design helps apply cutting force, and the cushioned, non-slip handle is intended to make repeated cuts more comfortable. The SK5 steel blade has a Teflon coating that helps prevent sap sticking, so it is easier to keep clean between pruning tasks. The manufacturer states that it cuts live green branches up to 20mm, for hard, dead wood, use a saw instead.

Why settle for a fixed handle opening when you can adjust the grip to your hand? The thumb-slide safety lock can be operated with one hand and is designed for left- or right-handed use, including when wearing gloves. A wrist strap is included.

## Care tips

The spring mechanism is sealed to help keep sap, dirt and moisture away, and is designed to work without routine spring maintenance. The blade’s non-stick coating helps make sap easier to remove after use. Keep the blade clean and use the secateurs for fresh, green growth within the stated cutting capacity to support smooth pruning.

## Best use cases

Use the VT-X850 for routine garden pruning, such as trimming rose stems, shaping shrubs and cutting back fresh growth on plants. Its adjustable grip is especially relevant when a fixed-width handle feels awkward or when a pair of secateurs is shared between gardeners with different hand sizes. The ambidextrous design also makes it suitable for left- and right-handed users.

For a typical session, adjust the handle opening for a secure hold, unlock the tool with the thumb slide and work through suitable live stems. The lever mechanism and cushioned grip are designed to make repeated cuts more manageable. If your main task is cutting hard, dead branches, a pruning saw is the more appropriate tool, these secateurs are specified for live green branches up to 20mm.

## Buying verdict

The VOTREK VT-X850 is a considered choice for gardeners looking for bypass secateurs with a customisable grip, a coated SK5 steel blade and a sealed spring system. It brings useful comfort features together with a clear pruning role: everyday work on roses, shrubs and fresh growth. Choose it when adjusting the handle to your hand matters as much as having a capable pair of garden secateurs.
