## Description

Some growers prefer a soil-based start, while hydroponic and greenhouse setups benefit from a soil-free medium. These OFFCUP rock wool cubes provide a defined space for starting seeds and raising young plants.

Made from basalt, the cubes have a porous structure that absorbs water and nutrient solution while allowing air to reach developing roots. That balance gives seeds and cuttings a practical starting environment.

The pre-cut 4 x 4 x 4 cm format is ready to prepare for sowing, propagation or cloning. With 56 cubes, you can organise multiple starts for a greenhouse, balcony or indoor growing area.

## Practical tips

Soak each cube before use, then place a seed or cutting into it. The porous structure holds moisture while maintaining airflow, helping create suitable conditions for germination and early root development. Once seedlings have sprouted, the cubes can be moved on for continued growing.

For hydroponic growing, use the cubes as individual supports for young plants in a soilless system. Their uniform shape also makes it easier to arrange starts neatly in a tray or growing area, including where space is limited. They can also be used for greenhouse propagation, grafted cuttings, herbs, tomatoes, strawberries, cucumbers and other flowering vegetables.

Compared with starting seeds directly in a soil-based medium, these cubes offer a consistent, soil-free format that suits hydroponic growing and organised propagation. They are also useful for home gardening projects, including balcony or indoor starts, where keeping individual seedlings arranged can make routine care more straightforward.

## Tech specs

- Type: Rock wool growing cubes
- Material: Basalt
- Cube size: 4 x 4 x 4 cm
- Quantity: 56 cubes
- Growing medium: Soilless

## Pros

The main benefit is the combination of water absorption and aeration in one ready-shaped growing block. Moisture is taken up through the porous structure, while air can continue to reach roots as they develop. This makes the cubes useful for both germination and raising cuttings, rather than limiting them to one stage of propagation.

Their modular shape supports a tidy layout when starting several plants at once, whether in a greenhouse or a smaller home growing space. The soil-free format is particularly relevant for hydroponic systems, while the cubes can also serve gardeners who want a straightforward way to begin seedlings before moving them on.

## Final verdict

For gardeners planning a soil-free start for seeds or cuttings, OFFCUP’s 56 basalt rock wool cubes offer a practical format for hydroponic systems, greenhouses and compact indoor growing. Their 4 x 4 x 4 cm size, porous structure and ready-cut shape make it easier to arrange starts and support early root development.
