Melissa & Doug Astronaut Costume Role Play Space Set, 5-Piece with Helmet & Gloves

For a space-themed dress-up session at home, this Melissa & Doug set gives children an outfit they can use for imaginative astronaut play. It includes a zippered jumpsuit with silver accents, a shiny helmet, silver elastic gloves and a reusable name tag for writing their astronaut’s name. The stated age range is 3–6 years.

The appeal is in having several recognisable costume pieces together, rather than building a space outfit from separate basics. It is designed for screen-free role play, and the rocket emblem and name tag give children details to include in their own games.

What to know

The set is described as five pieces: the jumpsuit, helmet, gloves and name tag, with the gloves supplied as a pair. The jumpsuit fastens with a zip, while the reusable tag can be written on for a new astronaut. The helmet and gloves are costume accessories for pretend play, the product description does not give sizing measurements or further details about their construction.

The age guidance is 3–6, but buyer feedback on fit is mixed: some find the costume fits well, while others say it is too big. As no garment measurements are provided here, that feedback is worth bearing in mind if a close fit matters. Buyers also speak positively about the appearance and construction, and describe children enjoying the costume. Some mention that it is straightforward for children to put on and take off, these are customer impressions rather than a guarantee for every child.

It’s a good fit if the aim is an immediately recognisable astronaut outfit for imaginative play, with several matching accessories included. Compared with a simpler dress-up outfit built around one garment, this set offers more costume detail in one purchase. If the priority is choosing a precisely measured fit, Not the best choice if you need measurements before deciding, as they are not included in the supplied details and reports on fit vary.

Cleaning & care

The product is described as machine washable and suitable for cleaning so another astronaut can use it. Specific washing instructions, such as a temperature or whether every accessory can be machine washed, are not provided. Follow any care information supplied with the costume, particularly before washing the helmet or other non-fabric pieces.

Tips for day-to-day use

The reusable name tag can help children personalise the role without changing the costume itself. For a simple play scenario, they could put on the jumpsuit and accessories before making up a space mission, or share the cleaned set with another child. The set is intended for pretend play rather than a functional space suit, so its value is in dress-up and storytelling. After use, keeping the pieces together should make it easier to find the full outfit for the next session.

Is it worth it?

This set is most compelling when the child wants the recognisable astronaut look and is likely to use the costume for more than one play session. Buyers often praise its cute appearance, construction and durability, while feedback on fit is less consistent. That makes the age range a useful starting point, not a precise indication of how it will fit an individual child. Choose it for a coordinated, screen-free dress-up set, if fit is the deciding factor, the lack of measurements and mixed feedback make a size-specific alternative easier to assess.
