## Description

A pretend phone gives little ones a familiar prop for copying everyday calls, messages and camera moments. The Janod J05334 adds sounds at the press of a key, bringing extra detail to make-believe play.

Its beech wood body is paired with a protective silicone case. The phone is designed for children from 18 months to 3 years, with seven soft plastic sound keys inspired by familiar phone functions.

At 6.5 x 2.5 x 12 centimetres and 231 g, it is a compact toy for play at home. Three LR44 1.5V batteries are included, so the sound features are ready to use.

## Strengths

Seven sound keys provide a range of prompts for pretend play: home, email, alarm, ring, camera, settings and SMS. Pressing the keys produces sounds, giving children an audible cue as they act out calls, take pretend photos or explore the other phone-style functions. Unlike a simple silent toy handset, this one adds sound effects to the play scenario.

The phone combines beech wood with a silicone case and soft plastic keys. The removable case can make the handset easier to grip and can be taken off for cleaning. Its multicoloured design and familiar phone shape make it easy to bring into imaginative games, whether a child is playing independently or sharing a pretend conversation with someone else.

Customer feedback is positive about playability and appearance, with some appreciating its resemblance to a real phone. Views on the sounds are mixed: some enjoy them, while others find them loud. Some customers also report concerns about durability, including internal breakage, flaking on the outer finish and the toy stopping working. These differing experiences are worth bearing in mind alongside the toy’s materials and sound features.

## What matters most

This is a sound toy built around imitation rather than a working mobile phone. Its seven buttons give children distinct actions to explore, while the wood-and-silicone construction provides a different feel from an all-plastic handset. The silicone case also has a practical role: it can be removed for easier grip or cleaning.

The recommended age is 18 months to 3 years. For a typical play session, a child can press the keys to trigger the sounds and use the phone as a prop in a pretend call. The compact dimensions make it straightforward to incorporate into home play, and the included three LR44 1.5V batteries power its sound functions.

## Best use cases

The Janod phone suits imaginative play built around familiar routines: answering a call, sending a pretend message, taking a photo or responding to an alarm. It can also add a simple sound element to role-play with other toys. A gift box with inviolability stickers makes it suitable for gifting, while the removable silicone case offers a straightforward way to clean the handset after play.

## Final verdict

For a child aged 18 months to 3 years who enjoys copying everyday phone use, the Janod J05334 brings together a beech wood handset, seven sound keys and a removable silicone case. It is a compact choice for sound-led pretend play, with familiar functions that give little hands plenty of ways to shape a make-believe call.
