## Description

Set in Derry in 1962, this Blu-ray brings the story to a town where unexplained child disappearances and unsettling events point to a long-buried evil. The period setting gives the horror story a distinct starting point within the world of IT.

A group of misfit friends begin looking for answers as the unease spreads. Their investigation unfolds alongside the efforts of townspeople trying to restore peace, while a US military operation pursues its own aims in Derry.

With Bill Skarsgård among the cast, IT: Welcome to Derry explores the origins of Pennywise in his shape-shifting clown form. Its Region Free Blu-ray format suits viewers building a physical collection of the story.

## Quick overview

This prequel returns to the world established by Stephen King and Andy Muschietti’s IT and IT: Chapter Two, but centres its story on events in 1962. Derry appears idyllic on the surface, beneath that, disappearances and disturbing phenomena draw a group of young friends into a search for the truth. The result is a supernatural horror story with both a group investigation and a wider community under pressure.

The plot also follows a military operation seeking to exploit what is happening in Derry. That gives the story more than one perspective on the town’s growing danger, while the children’s discoveries keep its focus on the people trying to understand it. At 8 hours and 1 minute, the listed running time makes this a substantial watch for a horror evening or a longer viewing session.

## Everyday use

Choose this edition if you want the Derry story on Blu-ray as part of a physical film and television collection. The Region Free designation is a useful format detail for buyers selecting a disc beyond a region-specific edition. For someone deciding between a single-film horror story and a longer prequel, this release offers an extended return to the IT setting, with the events of 1962 at its centre.

It also suits viewers interested in the origins of Pennywise rather than only the later events in IT and IT: Chapter Two. The story builds around the town, the missing children and the characters investigating what lies behind the disturbances, so it offers a broader look at Derry than a plot focused solely on the clown.

## Practical tips

Set aside time for a longer watch: the listed runtime is 8 hours and 1 minute. The Blu-ray format makes it a straightforward addition to a disc collection, and the Region Free label is worth noting when choosing an edition for your setup. If you are selecting it for someone else, its clearest appeal is to viewers who enjoy Stephen King’s Derry setting, supernatural horror and stories that explore how a community responds to fear.

The cast includes Bill Skarsgård, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Jovan Adepo and Taylour Paige. Their presence, alongside the 1962 setting and the mystery surrounding the disappearances, gives the release several points of interest for viewers who follow the wider IT story.

## Buying verdict

IT: Welcome to Derry is a fitting pick for horror fans who want an extended prequel set in the world of IT, rather than another retelling of the central film story. Its 1962 Derry mystery, ensemble cast and Region Free Blu-ray format make it particularly relevant for collectors and viewers keen to explore Pennywise’s origins and the town’s history.
