## Description

For a desktop build that needs room for two drives, the ICY BOX IB-174SSK-U brings them together in a single standard 5.25-inch bay. It supports 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA/SAS drives, making it a practical way to add removable storage without assigning a separate bay to each drive. The aluminium enclosure gives the frame a solid, compact home inside the desktop.

Two front USB 3.0 Type-A ports add convenient access for connecting peripherals. Separate power control for both drives and LEDs for operation and access make it easier to manage and check the drives at a glance.

## Key takeaways

The IB-174SSK-U is designed to hold two 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA/SAS drives in a standard 5.25-inch bay. Its SATA interface supports data transfer rates of up to 6 Gigabits per second. With two drive positions in one frame, it suits desktop setups where internal storage needs to be organised around an available bay rather than spread across separate mounting points.

The front also includes a two-port USB 3.0 Type-A hub for everyday peripheral connections. A power switch controls both hard drives, while the LEDs indicate operation and access. This combination makes the frame useful for a desktop where drive management and accessible USB ports matter alongside storage capacity.

## Practical tips

Check that your desktop has a standard 5.25-inch bay available for installation. The frame is intended for desktop use, and the aluminium construction forms part of its enclosure. The supplied kit includes two SATA cables, a screw set, two keys and a quick start guide, giving you the listed essentials for fitting and connecting the frame.

When planning the setup, allow for two drive connections and consider how you want to use each drive in your desktop. The separate power switch and access indicators are helpful when you need a clear view of drive activity during regular use.

## How to use it

Install the frame in the desktop’s standard 5.25-inch bay, then fit the supported SATA/SAS drives into its two positions. Use the supplied SATA cables as part of the drive connections. Once installed, the front USB 3.0 Type-A ports provide a handy place to connect compatible peripherals, while the drive switch and LEDs make routine operation easy to follow.

For example, a desktop used for a mix of everyday work and stored files can keep two drives together in this frame, with the front ports available for peripherals. That integrated approach is especially useful when the aim is to organise internal storage within an existing bay, a setup built around separate drive mounts follows a different layout.

## Practical questions

**How many drives can the frame hold?** It is designed for two 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA/SAS drives, so you can use the form factor suited to your setup.

**What bay does it fit?** The frame is made for installation in a standard 5.25-inch desktop bay.

**What comes in the package?** The listed contents are one IB-174SSK-U frame, two SATA cables, a screw set, two keys and a quick start guide.

## Buying verdict

The ICY BOX IB-174SSK-U is a useful choice for desktop users who want two removable drive positions within one standard 5.25-inch bay. Support for 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA/SAS drives, front USB 3.0 ports and clear drive controls bring storage and everyday access together in a single aluminium frame.
