## Description

Tri-band WiFi 7 brings 6 GHz, 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz connectivity to a desktop or laptop through a USB 3.0 adapter, giving you a straightforward way to add wireless networking to a Windows computer. With speeds of up to 6.5 Gbps across the three bands, it is suited to tasks such as streaming high-resolution video or online gaming, as well as everyday browsing.

Its external 6 dBi antenna can be rotated to help position the adapter for reception, while beamforming directs the signal towards the router. The adapter also supports WPA3, MU-MIMO and OFDMA, and includes Smart AP functionality for sharing a WiFi connection from the computer with other devices.

## Key takeaways

The adapter combines three WiFi bands, with listed speeds of 2,882 Mbps on 6 GHz, 2,882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. This gives you a choice of supported bands for different wireless needs, while WiFi 7 features including 4K-QAM, MU-MIMO and OFDMA are designed to handle data transmission more efficiently. The maximum combined speed is stated as up to 6.5 Gbps.

The 6 dBi external antenna and beamforming add practical signal-reception features to a compact USB connection. Compared with relying on a computer’s built-in wireless connection, an external adapter offers a separate antenna that can be positioned to suit the setup. It is a useful approach for a desktop or laptop where adding wireless connectivity is the priority.

## Usage tips

The adapter supports Windows 10 and Windows 11, with an important difference between the two: Windows 11 is required to use the 6 GHz band, while Windows 10 supports the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands. Choose the supported band for your Windows version when setting up the connection.

For a desktop, laptop or other compatible computer, connect the adapter using its USB 3.0 interface and position the external antenna to suit the computer’s location. Pre-installed drivers are provided, so installation does not require a disc or driver download. The package also includes a 1.2 m cable and a user manual, offering useful options for arranging the adapter around the computer.

## Getting the most from it

Use the 6 GHz band on Windows 11 when you want to make use of the adapter’s full tri-band support, on Windows 10, select between 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz. The listed band speeds help set expectations for the adapter’s headline 6.5 Gbps figure: they are presented separately by band, rather than as a single speed for every connection. Actual use depends on selecting a supported band and having a suitable wireless network available.

For demanding online activities such as 4K or 8K streaming and competitive gaming, the adapter brings together tri-band connectivity and WiFi 7 data-handling features. WPA3 encryption supports a more private browsing experience. With Smart AP, the connected computer can also simulate an access point and share its WiFi connection with mobile phones, tablets, laptops and other devices.

## Final verdict

The COMFAST USB WiFi adapter is a practical fit for Windows desktop and laptop users who want tri-band WiFi 7, an external 6 dBi antenna and USB 3.0 connectivity in one device. Its band options, signal-positioning features and Smart AP sharing give it uses beyond simply connecting a computer to WiFi, making it especially relevant for a setup that needs wireless access or connection sharing.
