Wooden folding chess and checkers set 15-inch

For a game that can move from the shelf to the dining table, a folding board keeps chess and checkers together in one set. This 15-inch wooden version includes Staunton chess pieces, two extra queens and 24 checkers pieces, so you can switch games without bringing out a separate board.

Its defining detail is a small bracket intended to help the open board lie flat and keep the metal latch off the table. That addresses a practical annoyance of folding sets, though the listing doesn’t state the set’s weight or packed dimensions.

Where it shines

The board has 1.57-inch maple and walnut squares, paired with Staunton pieces with a 3-inch king and a 1.18-inch base. The listing describes these proportions as meeting USCF and FIDE standards. For a home game, that means the pieces and squares are specified as a coordinated set rather than as a compact travel board with reduced playing space.

The folding format makes sense when you want to put the game away between matches. Picture opening it on the dining table for a quick chess game, then clearing the pieces and using the same board for checkers. The bracket is also designed to support the centre seam, which may be useful if a raised hinge has bothered you on other folding boards. If you prioritise a board that stores away, this format has a clear purpose, if you prefer a fixed, uninterrupted playing surface, a non-folding board may suit your setup better.

The frame is listed as 0.5 inch thick, with mortise-and-tenon joints and rounded corners. The listing also describes the wood as natural rather than stained, but doesn’t identify the specific wood species used across the whole set. The two extra queens are a practical inclusion for chess players who want promotion pieces on hand.

Quick overview

• Type: Folding chess and checkers set

The listing says the set has CPSC certification. Based on the listing details, its appeal is the combination of a full-size-at-home playing format and two games, rather than a focus on portability, there’s no packed size or weight here to help assess how easily it travels.

Best use cases

It suits you if you want chess and checkers in one set for casual games at home, and you value a board that folds away after play. The piece dimensions and square size are useful details if you care about how the set is proportioned. The tray design is intended to make the pieces easy to access when the box is opened, although the listing doesn’t explain how the pieces are arranged or secured for transport.

Better to avoid it if you need a particularly lightweight set, need confirmed storage dimensions, or want a fixed board without a centre fold. Those details aren’t provided, so the set is easier to assess as a home game than as something to carry regularly.

To wrap up

Choose this set if having both games, Staunton chess pieces and a folding wooden board matters more than knowing the exact packed size or weight. The bracket and frame details address stability and table contact, while the 15-inch board gives the pieces room to play. If your decision depends on the wood species, portability, or a seamless non-folding surface, the available details leave those questions unanswered.
