Vibe bear HSTTM-1 Japanese Futon Floor Mattress, Full Size, 3.2-Inch Foam

Some rooms need a dedicated bed, others benefit from a sleep surface that can also serve as floor seating. The Vibe bear HSTTM-1 is a full-size Japanese futon mattress designed for floor use, with a foldable format for flexible room setups.

Its 9-layer construction combines a microfiber cover, polyester fibre fill and high-density foam in a medium-firm feel. The quilted top helps keep the filling in place for more even cushioning across the sleeping surface.

At 54" x 80" and 3.2" thick, it suits a bedroom, dorm room or guest space, and can also be used as a floor base for yoga or meditation.

Key takeaways

The high-density foam core provides the mattress’s supportive base, while the padded layers add cushioning. Its medium-firm feel offers a balanced option for people who want support without choosing an especially soft sleep surface. The full-size dimensions give one sleeper a broad floor mattress, and the black microfiber cover gives it a simple, understated look.

This design is useful when a room has more than one purpose. Set it out for an overnight guest, use it as a dorm-room sleep surface, or fold it away when you want to reclaim floor space. Compared with a fixed bed setup, a floor futon offers a more adaptable arrangement for occasional sleeping and multi-use rooms. Buyers often praise its comfort and balance of softness and firmness, opinions on the thickness and how easily it folds are mixed.

How to look after it

The mattress arrives vacuum-compressed. After opening, allow 48–72 hours for it to expand fully, cooler conditions can extend recovery time. It is designed for use on both sides, so flipping or rotating it every 2–3 months can help reduce body impressions over time. A sheet or mattress cover adds a protective layer over the microfiber surface. When setting it up, check the opened mattress dimensions rather than judging its size from the compact parcel.

Who it’s for

The HSTTM-1 is suited to people furnishing a dorm room, creating a guest sleep space or looking for a floor mattress that can serve more than one purpose. It also works as a cushioned base for floor seating, yoga or meditation. Its full-size footprint is particularly relevant when choosing a floor mattress for a room where a smaller sleeping area would not meet the intended need. Buyers’ comments about comfort and support may help set expectations, while their varied views on foldability make the mattress’s role in your room worth considering: it is designed to fold, but feedback on handling it varies.

Before you decide

How long should the mattress take to expand? Allow 48–72 hours after unpacking for full expansion. Cooler conditions may mean it takes longer to recover.

Can it be used on either side? Yes. The mattress is described as double-sided, and flipping or rotating it every 2–3 months is recommended to help minimize body impressions.

What can it be used for besides sleeping? It can serve as extra floor seating or as a base for yoga and meditation, as well as a sleep surface in a bedroom, dorm room or guest room.

Is it worth it?

For a full-size floor mattress that can move between sleeping, guest use and floor-based activities, the HSTTM-1 brings together high-density foam support, a medium-firm feel and a multi-use design. It is a practical fit for people who want a flexible sleep surface rather than a permanent bed arrangement.
