## Description

Some music releases focus on studio recordings, this DVD centres on live performances. Live at Montreux 1982 & 1985 brings Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble to the screen in a concert-focused release tied to two years at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

The 1982 performance took place during the festival’s Blues Night and is described as fiery. Together, the dates give the release a clear appeal for viewers interested in Vaughan’s live presence and electric blues guitar.

## Best use cases

Choose this DVD for a music night built around watching a live performance rather than listening to a studio-led collection. It also suits a Stevie Ray Vaughan collection, or a shared viewing for listeners who want to revisit a festival appearance from his early career. The 1982 Montreux context adds a specific point of interest: Vaughan was invited to play Blues Night at the annual festival, and the performance is remembered for its intensity.

The title also includes 1985, making the release relevant to viewers looking for Montreux performances from both years in one product. For a relaxed evening, it can serve as the main feature, for a guitar-focused music session, the live setting and Vaughan’s electric blues identity give viewers a performance to centre the occasion around. It is a concert-oriented choice for anyone who values seeing an artist perform, rather than choosing a release solely for its studio track selection.

## Technical overview

- Format: DVD

The listed running time is 2 hours and 30 minutes, giving the programme room for an extended music viewing session. The release date is Sept. 7, 2004. The performers named for the DVD are Double Trouble and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

## Pros

The strongest draw is the combination of a defined festival setting and two performance years in the title. Montreux Jazz Festival gives the 1982 appearance a clear live-music context, while the Blues Night detail helps distinguish it from a general artist compilation. The description of Vaughan’s set as fiery also points to an energetic concert experience without making claims about picture or sound quality.

A DVD is a practical fit for viewers who prefer to watch a performance on a television or other DVD setup, rather than seek out music as audio alone. Its 2-hour-and-30-minute running time makes it suited to a dedicated viewing session. Compared with choosing a release centred on studio material, this one is aimed at the atmosphere of live performance and the particular Montreux appearances identified by its title.

## When it makes sense

This release makes sense when the goal is to add a concert-focused Stevie Ray Vaughan title to a music collection, or to spend an evening with performances connected to Montreux in 1982 and 1985. It is especially relevant to viewers drawn to electric blues guitar and festival appearances, with the 1982 Blues Night set providing a concrete historical setting for the viewing.

A solid pick if you want a DVD that puts Vaughan and Double Trouble in a live-performance context and offers an extended programme centred on Montreux. Its appeal is specific and straightforward: two years named in the title, a notable 1982 festival appearance, and a format made for watching the performance.
