## Description

Some rooms need straightforward manual lighting, others benefit from lights that respond as people move through the space. The Kasa Smart KS220M combines motion activation with adjustable dimming. Its ambient light sensor helps keep lights from turning on automatically in daylight. Wi-Fi and app control add scheduling and remote adjustments without a hub.

## Getting the most from it
Set the dimmer to respond to motion, then choose a brightness level that suits the room and time of day. The built-in ambient light sensor helps prevent automatic activation when there is already enough daylight. You can also set the lights to turn off after a period without motion, making the switch useful in places such as hallways, bathrooms and laundry rooms where hands-free lighting is convenient.

Brightness adjusts from 1% to 100%, so the same switch can provide a gentle glow at night or brighter light when needed. Fade-in and fade-out settings soften transitions, which can be useful for winding down at bedtime or moving around a room after dark. Through the Kasa Smart app, you can adjust the lights remotely and create schedules around your daily routine. Voice control is available through [amazon](https://www.amazon.ca/-/dp/B099KLHG5V?tag=caofetop0e-20) Alexa and Google Assistant, the listed compatible devices also include Samsung SmartThings.

Compared with a basic wall dimmer that relies on someone operating it each time, the KS220M adds motion- and light-based triggers alongside manual control. For example, a hallway light can come on as someone enters, then switch off after the space is empty for the set period. The app’s guided wiring steps support installation, and the switch requires a neutral wire and a single-pole circuit.

## Where it shines
This dimmer is suited to rooms where people often arrive with their hands full or want light without searching for a switch. Motion activation can help guide a nighttime trip through a hallway or bathroom, while adjustable brightness makes it easier to set a softer level for a bedroom routine. In a frequently used utility space, scheduled settings and automatic shutoff provide convenient ways to manage lighting throughout the day.

Buyer feedback highlights the installation process, smart controls and range of features as positives. Connectivity is a recurring concern, while opinions on reliability, motion detection and brightness control are mixed. The product’s practical appeal is its combination of automatic sensing, dimming and app access in a wall switch, rather than motion activation alone.

## Key points
- Type: Motion-activated Wi-Fi dimmer switch
- Model: KS220M
- Dimming range: 1% to 100%, with fade-in and fade-out
- Control: Kasa Smart app, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings is also listed as compatible
- Installation: Single-pole circuit, neutral wire required

## Final verdict
Choose the Kasa Smart KS220M for a room where automatic lighting and hands-free convenience matter as much as brightness control. Motion and ambient light sensing, adjustable dimming, fading, schedules and remote app access bring several useful lighting controls together in one switch. It is a practical fit for everyday routes through the home and for routines that call for softer, more gradual lighting.
