Kasa Smart KP405 Outdoor Dimmer Plug, IP64, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi

If you want adjustable outdoor lighting for a patio, garden or string-light setup, the Kasa Smart KP405 lets you dim connected lights and manage them through the Kasa app or voice commands. Its IP64 rating is designed to protect against dust and water splashes, while 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi enables smart control without a hub.

Choose it when setting the brightness matters as much as switching lights on and off. A basic smart plug handles power, the KP405 adds dimming for compatible outdoor lights.

• Weather resistance: IP64 protection against dust and water splashes

For dimming to work, the connected light fixture and bulbs must be dimmable. The listed load ratings give you a practical way to match the dimmer to your lighting setup. The Kasa app also supports schedules, countdown timers, scenes and grouping, so lights can follow a routine or be controlled together.

Compatibility

The KP405 works with amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice control, as well as the Kasa app for brightness adjustments and scheduling. It requires a dedicated 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and does not require a hub. The advertised wireless reach is up to 300 ft in open areas, which is useful for outdoor lighting positioned away from the house. You can also adjust the dimmer using its physical button.

Who it’s for

This dimmer is suited to people who want more control over outdoor string lights, landscape lighting or other compatible exterior fixtures than a simple on/off plug provides. It’s useful for setting a comfortable light level on a patio, coordinating multiple lights through a scene, or scheduling accent lighting to come on at a chosen time. Its weather-resistant design supports outdoor placement where dust and splashing water are a consideration.

Customer feedback often highlights straightforward setup and convenient brightness adjustment, with some also appreciating Alexa control. Experiences with connectivity and durability are mixed, so user impressions vary, the documented features remain the clearest guide to choosing it for your lighting needs.

Buying verdict

Choose the Kasa Smart KP405 when your outdoor setup calls for adjustable brightness, app-based scheduling and voice control in one plug-in dimmer. The IP64 rating, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and support for dimmable LED/CFL or incandescent lighting make it a practical fit for compatible patio and garden lights. Match the connected bulbs to the relevant load rating, and you can manage the lighting level without relying on a basic on/off-only plug.
