## Description

If you need a compact speaker for travel and outdoor listening, the JBL Grip brings Bluetooth audio, IP68 protection and a built-in ambient light in a grab-and-go design. It suits casual listening on a patio or during a day out. Choose it when portability and durability matter, for a wider soundstage, you can pair two Grip speakers in stereo.

## Worth noting
AI Sound Boost analyses music in real time and optimizes the output for fuller sound with less distortion. The speaker is rated at 16 watts and uses a mono audio output, with Bluetooth connectivity for compatible phones, tablets and laptops. Its black finish and compact 6.5 x 6.4 x 15.24 cm dimensions make it easy to place on a tabletop or pack for a trip.

The IP68 waterproof and dustproof rating and drop-proof design are practical for outdoor settings and everyday bumps. JBL states that the Grip can withstand a 1-metre drop onto concrete. Battery life is rated at up to 14 hours: 12 hours on a charge, with up to 2 additional hours using Playtime Boost. Some buyer feedback praises the sound for a speaker of this size, while other comments report shorter battery life in use. These are individual impressions, the stated playtime is an up-to figure, not a guaranteed duration for every listening session.

## Practical tips
For a day out, connect a phone over Bluetooth and keep the speaker nearby for music without setting up a larger sound system. On a desk, shelf or patio table, its tabletop mounting style gives you a simple spot for casual listening. The integrated ambient light adds colour behind the speaker, use the JBL Portable app to adjust its brightness and choose a light colour to suit the setting.

The app also offers a 7-band EQ for tailoring the sound. If you want music to cover more space, Auracast lets you stereo-pair two Grip speakers or connect multiple JBL Auracast-enabled speakers to play the same playlist. Stereo pairing requires a second Grip speaker.

## Getting the most from it
Use Playtime Boost when you want to extend a listening session beyond the stated 12-hour single-charge figure. For the listening setup, start with Bluetooth for a straightforward connection to a compatible device, then adjust the EQ in the JBL Portable app to suit the music. The app also provides controls for light colour and intensity, so the speaker’s look can shift from subtle background lighting to a more noticeable accent.

A single Grip keeps the setup portable for personal listening, while a stereo pair is the more suitable approach when you want a wider soundstage. For a shared playlist across a larger gathering, connect multiple JBL Auracast-enabled speakers. The choice depends on whether you value a compact, self-contained setup or broader coverage around a group.

## Questions before you buy
**Can I connect the Grip to a phone or tablet?** Yes. It uses Bluetooth and lists smartphones and tablets among compatible devices, as well as laptops.

**Can I pair two Grip speakers for stereo?** Yes. Auracast supports stereo pairing of two Grip speakers for a wider soundstage. It can also connect multiple JBL Auracast-enabled speakers to the same playlist.

**Can I change the light and sound settings?** Yes. The JBL Portable app provides a 7-band EQ and controls for the ambient light’s colour and brightness.

## Should you buy it?
Choose the JBL Grip if you want portable Bluetooth listening with features suited to travel and outdoor use: IP68 waterproof and dustproof protection, a drop-proof design, app-adjustable sound and lighting, and up to 14 hours of stated playtime. It also offers a clear path to a wider setup through Auracast, whether you begin with one speaker or plan to pair two for stereo.
