Product description

The built-in photocell switches this ST19 bulb on at night and off during the day, so porch lighting doesn’t need to be managed by hand.

Its vintage filament look is suited to outdoor lanterns and other decorative fixtures. The soft white 2700K light keeps the style warm rather than stark.

It uses an E26 base and comes as a two-pack. That makes it practical for matching a pair of outdoor fixtures, provided both sockets suit the bulb.

How it looks

The ST19 shape and visible filament give this bulb a classic decorative appearance, rather than the plain look of a standard utility bulb. In a porch lantern or wall fixture, it can provide both a warm light source and a visible part of the fixture’s design.

The automatic sensor is intended to respond to sunlight, switching on after dark and off during daylight. That can be useful for an entrance or driveway where you want light to come on without using a timer. Does the sensor suit every installation? Not necessarily: the fixture must allow the sensor to receive light, so an enclosed or obstructed fitting may interfere with its operation.

Pros

The main convenience is the dusk-to-dawn control. Once screwed into a compatible E26 socket, the bulb handles its own on/off cycle, with no separate installation procedure described. It is intended for outdoor areas such as porches, patios, paths, garages and gardens.

At 8W, it is presented as a replacement for a 100W incandescent bulb, with a stated output of 1400 lumens. The 2700K soft white colour temperature favours a warmer feel for entrances and outdoor seating areas. The pack contains two bulbs, which can help keep a matched pair of fixtures consistent.

It suits you if you want automatic night lighting and prefer a vintage filament style over a plain-looking bulb. Better to avoid it if your fixture blocks the sensor or you need a bulb with a different base, colour temperature or specified output, those alternatives may fit your setup better.

What I’d decide

This bulb makes the most sense when the goal is hands-off lighting in an outdoor E26 fixture that leaves the sensor exposed. For example, fitting one in a porch lantern could mean having light available at night without remembering to switch it on, while the second can go in a matching entrance or yard fixture.

The practical trade-off is that automatic operation depends on the bulb’s sensor getting an unobstructed view of changing daylight. If you need to control lighting independently of ambient light, or the fixture hides the sensor, a conventional bulb paired with a separate control may be a better fit. Check the socket and how the bulb sits in the fixture before choosing, the listed lumen output and warm colour are useful only if they suit the area you want to light.
